About the Book

Over the last fifteen or so years, the 2/1 Game Forcing bidding method has gained substantial popularity. This book is designed for players who are familiar with Standard bidding and are interested in switching to the 2/1 method. It covers basic concepts as well as the differences between 2/1 and Standard auctions, and includes a discussion of more advanced ideas and conventions that fit particularly well with 2/1 methods.

Critic's Viewpoint

'A complete from-square-one guide - will not cause a major shock to your comfort zone.'
- The Denver Post

'Authoritative but not authoritarian - just what you want.'
- Bridge Plus

'While there have been a number of excellent books on the 2/1 approach, none have offered as painless a changeover from a simple 5-card major system as well as this one.'
- ACBL Bulletin

'An excellent first introduction to the popular modern system. A good tool for teachers, or for students ready to expand their horizons.'
- American Bridge Teachers Association

'With this book, you can be playing 2/1 effectively within a week.'
- Eric Kokish

'Impressive features include the number of self-testing hands to bid, as well as many asides which indicate how the suggested simple method described may differ between partnerships. These provide the basis for partnership discussion that is missing in a lot of bridge texts. Even for those who have played 2/1 for years, these asides will help to narrow down the points for discussion with all new partners. In spite of his success over 25 years usage of the system, Mr. Thurston never imposes his favorite methods in any way. Admirable, too, is Paul's dry humor and mastery of English. At this price, this book is a must for any bridge library.'
- Kingston Whig-Standard

'An outstanding book for anyone interested in learning or improving their 2/1.'
- American Bridge Teachers' Association

'Thurston breaks all this down neatly into bite-size chunks with hundreds of examples. He has a free-wheeling and chatty style, which never makes you feel you are being talked down to. The ideas are refreshing and well worth the effort put into reading them. '

"The best bridge book I've read yet...primarily because I started to read other books on 2/1 and threw up my hands partway through. It seemed too complicated a system without being told along the way why I should learn it. Paul Thurston kept reinforcing me from cover to cover. I anxiously await his sequel.
