Julian Pottage worked on a number of books with the late Terence Reese, and this one pays homage to a man who was certainly the best bridge writer of his time. One of Reese's classics, Play these hands with me, pioneered the 'over-the-shoulder' style of bridge writing. What that book did for declarer play, the present one will do for defense: the reader can follow the thinking of an expert player, stopping at critical points in the play to make his own decision about how to continue.

"An excellent guide on learning to think like an expert defender. Rating: A." - ACBL Bulletin
"Unlike some authors, whose problems feature solutions you will rarely encounter at the table, even if you play a a lot, the solutions to the problems in this book are almost all practical, with very few that are esoteric. I think it will rightly be compared with the small number of classic books on defense. I recommend it highly." - Australian Bridge
"Any bridge player who aspires to improve his game will benefit from reading and re-reading these problems." - Belleville Intelligencer
"As usual with this author, these are very interesting deals, not for beginners. This is a book that can really help your defense, teaching you what to think about while holding your own thirteen cards." - International Bridge Press Association
