"If you want to read about top-level bridge from the inside, buy this book."
- Phillip Alder
"While many of the short-listed books for the IBPA award were highly rated by the judges, there could be only one winner. It's unusual to find a new format for a bridge book after more than 75 years of people writing about the game, but this is one that will appeal to many readers. Don't expect to agree with all of Auken's opinions or judgements, but expect to be provoked into thought. This is an excellent book that all serious players (whether intermediate or better) should read."
- Australian Bridge
"Complex, high-level analysis and top-notch bridge. This book will educate and entertain players of any level from high intermediate all the way up."
- The Bridge World
"Apart from being a terrific story, all players, no matter their level of skill, can learn something from this book."
- International Bridge Press Association
"You will enjoy this book whether you are looking for a narrative of a thrilling international final, a glimpse into the methods of one of the top women's pairs in the game or insight into some of the seldom discussed elements of the game by one of its top practitioners. 'I Love this Game' will surely be one of the most highly praised bridge books of the year."
- Belleville Intelligencer
"Interesting theoretical discussion, plus lots of boards from other tourneys, spice with comments on systems and conventions among other things. Whether you just read for pleasure or to learn - this is a book for you."
- Jon Sviendal, Norway
"There is something about books on famous players that makes interesting reading. They have an intuition to which most of us can only aspire, and the chance to find out how they do is like being let in on a secret. Considering that the author's mother tongue is not English, she has excelled at describing the ups and downs at the top level of women's bridge. The final of the Venice Cup in Paris between Germany and the hosts provides the main theme of the action. Actually, it is just the last 16 deals that take centre stage. You may be relieved to hear, however, that a treatise on these deals does not fill the entire book. On the contrary, in a style reminiscent of Ronnie "it's good night from me and it's good night from him" Corbett, the author adds in a juicy blend of cocktails and side dishes to make the experience particularly palatable.
One factor contributing to the author's success at the table stems from her table presence - and the confidence to follow her instincts even when doing so involves playing against the odds. The author touches on how a partnership can mesh and what sorts of understandings are useful to have. She also includes some general tips, such as how to handle intervention over your side's strong club opening."
